Characterisation of feedstuffs for ruminants using some physical parameters

چکیده

Various ingredients and roughages of known chemical composition have been analysed by several physical methods: particle density, particle size, water holding capacity, feed solubilisation and osmotic pressure. Some of these methods already exist and have been adapted and others have been newly developed. All of the methods are quite easy to perform and the results are very repeatable. The data obtained by the physical and chemical methods have been correlated together. The physical methods gave new information about the nutritive value of feedstuffs for ruminants and they can be used to differentiate between feedstuffs. They might explain part of the role played by rumen ̄ora on feedstuffs which is not taken into account by the chemical approach. # 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Comparison of in vitro and in situ techniques for estimating protein degradability of selected feedstuffs

The objective of this study was to estimate the protein degradability parameters of 6 common ruminant feedstuff using the nylon bags (in situ) and the innovative in vitro method-the DaisyII incubator. Significant differences were observed between the in situ and in vitro methods in estimation of the rapidly soluble (a) fraction (Pin vitro method were highly correlated with the estimated values ...

The influence of physical processing on the intake, digestion and utilization of dried herbage.

The effects of physical processing of forage diets on their value as feedstuffs for ruminants has been reviewed by Minson (1963)~ Beardsley (1964), Moore (1964), Campling & Milne (1972), Greenhalgh & Wainman (1972), Jarrige, Demarquilly, Journet & Beranger (1973) and Wilkins (1973). In this review we have therefore attempted to concentrate attention upon the chemical and physical changes produc...

Factors Affecting Nutritional Value of Feedstuffs

For ruminants, the microbial population existing in the rumen breaks down feed ingredients offered to the animal. This population must be healthy and viable to permit maximum utilization of feed ingredients. Because ruminants evolved mainly as forage feeders, factors that disrupt population of cellulolytic microorganisms will result in reduced utilization of nutrients -primarily, energy and pro...

مقایسه روش های آزمایشگاهی و کیسه های نایلونی در برآورد تجزیه‌پذیری ماده خشک برخی مواد خوراکی

The objective of this study was to compare dry matter degradability of some feedstuffs including soybean meal, canola meal, barley grain, corn grain, alfalfa hay and corn silage by in vitro and in situ techniques. The in vitro method includes the ruminal digestion stage of the in vitro dry matter digestibility technique. Significant differences were observed between two methods in the estimat...
